September/October 2008
Dr. Jeff says….
Although I have been a Chiropractor for over 19 years, October 20, 2008 marks the 10th anniversary of Silberfine Chiropractic in Carpentersville. I would like to express my sincere thanks to all of our patients who have made the commitment all of these years. It has been a privilege to serve and help you achieve and maintain a higher quality of life and health through Chiropractic care.
Silberfine Chiropractic has been built on people caring about their families and friends enough to share the benefits of chiropractic, so that they too can experience improved health. For that I am deeply thankful. Everyday I thank God that He has chosen me to help His people through the gift of Chiropractic.
As we look to the future, we will continue to seize every opportunity to help educate and inform organizations, groups, families and the community about the importance of good spinal and nervous system health at every stage of life. We look forward to being able to participate in community presentations and various health fairs. Our biggest goal is to continue to take the necessary time, in the office, from the very first visit to keep our patients informed on their own spinal health.
I would like to thank my wife, Michelle and my four children, Melissa, Alexandria, Brandon and Hunter for their constant support over the years. Lastly, I am grateful and blessed to have such a wonderful “team” on my side. My deepest gratitude to Cyndi, Tracy and Dr. Vince for sharing my vision, for their hard work and joyful attitudes in helping me to serve all of you.
Back to School
Before you put your child/children back into school, did you take them for a physical? Did they get a dental check-up? How about their vision, did you have that checked? As important as all of these areas are, everyone of them is connected to the nerve system. If there is a subluxation in your child’s spine that is not corrected, their vision may not be as sharp as it could be, there may be accelerated tooth decay, they may be more prone to ear infections, their attention span in class might be shorter. While it is very important to keep up with all aspects of your child’s health, it is equally important to remember to bring them for regular spinal adjustments. It’s all connected!!
Life is too short Grudges are a waste of perfect happiness.
Laugh when you can. Apologize when you should. And let go of what you can’t change.
Love deeply and forgive quickly Take chances. Give everything and have no regrets.
Life is too short to be unhappy. You have to take the good with the bad.
Smile when you are sad. Love what you got always
Remember what you had Always forgive and learn from your mistakes.
People change and things go wrong But always remember Life goes on!!
Share the gift of Life…Share Chiropractic
When you share your Chiropractic experience with others you could be saving a life. Help us spread the good word about a more natural approach to better health for the total person of every age and not just a band-aid for back pain. If you need the tools to share the Chiropractic “message”, please feel free to ask about literature that might help you.
In addition…if you would like to share a testimony with us, please feel free to write one!! We will be happy to post it on the bulletin board as well as on our website.

Dr. Jeff says….
My staff and I really appreciate all of you and the confidence that you have in us to serve you and your family’s Chiropractic needs. We pray God’s richest blessings on each and everyone of you for a blessed and happy holiday season. Because the holidays are just the around the corner, I felt that this would be an appropriate time to have a newsletter that discussed the effects of stress and ways, including regular chiropractic adjustments, to reduce that stress. In addition to the following article, please take some time to ponder the six Biblical reasons why worry (internal stress) is useless.
- Worry ignores the logic of life. If God has given you life, the greater gift, doesn’t it make sense that He’ll give you adequate food and clothing, the lesser gift?
- Worry ignores the value of life. He takes care of the birds and you are of greater value then they are, so how much more will He watch over the affairs of your life.
- Worry ignores its own limitations. Sitting and worrying over something for hours at a time will not change the outcome. So why worry?
- Worry ignores God’s faithfulness. The same God who faithfully clothes the flowers of the field is responsible for taking care of you.
- Worry ignores God’s love. Those of us who are in relationship with God know that God doesn’t treat His children like orphans who must take care of themselves.
- Worry ignores the present. When we worry about tomorrow we’re missing out on today. Yes, some difficult situations may arise, but any problem can be managed if itis handled with God’s help, one day at a time. To balance your emotional stress, enrich your spiritual life. To balance your physical life, eat a balance of nutritious foods, sleep 6-8 hours every night, start an exercise program that you are able to stick with and keep your nervous system working at its optimum with regular Chiropractic adjustments.
Apple Tea
M.S. Milliken & S. Teniger, c1997
8 ounces dried apple slices 2 sticks cinnamon
4 cloves 1 1/2 quarts cold water
Honey or sugar
Place the apple slices, cinnamon, cloves and water in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer 15 minutes.
Sweeten with honey or sugar, and strain into tea glasses, pushing gently on the apples to remove all the liquid.
Everyone experiences stress on a daily basis. Stress is defined as a reaction to any internal or external stimuli that upsets normal functioning and disturbs mental or physical health. Internal conditions such as illness, pain, or emotional conflict, as well as external circumstances, such as a death in the family, or financial problems can cause stress. Even positive experiences like a new marriage or job promotion can provoke stress. Long lasting or chronic stress suppress the immune system, which in turn increase the susceptibility to illness, especially to immune-related disorders or cancer. Emotional stress also leads to hormonal imbalances that interfere with immune system function. If you reduce stress, you will help to maintain balance and health. Many symptoms of stress can be explained by an examination of diet and nutrient levels. You can reduce stress by avoiding caffeine and food additives, and eat fresher, whole foods that are high in complex carbohydrates and low in fat. You should consume very little foods containing simple sugars and they should be fruit. Eating the proper foods can be very therapeutic.
A complete balance of exercise will work in making the body healthier, thus reducing overall stress. Make a plan to exercise everyday and stick to your program! It's important to understand that the way we think or feel can play a very significant role in our overall health. Reducing stress is necessary to restoring and maintaining good health. Our immune system can be enhanced or suppressed by what we think and how we respond emotionally to everything around us.
Being educated is the first step to controlling your health. It’s easy to get a prescription from your doctor and take a couple of pills. But that just makes him/her a drug dealer. While in fact, most prescription drugs don't "heal" anything. They only alleviate the symptoms. We must be responsible for our own health, and that may include changing our habits and lifestyle!
Chiropractic is a drug-free and non-surgical science. Chiropractors look at the human body and give special attention to its physiological and biochemical aspects. Major areas of concern for a chiropractor when examining a patient can include spinal or musculoskeletal structure, neurological activity, vascular systems, nutrition habits, emotions, and environmental relationships. Chiropractors are “first-contact” physicians who can diagnose conditions that may be treatable by a chiropractor, some that require referral to other health care professionals, or co-managed treatments with other health care professionals.
Discuss with Dr. Jeff and Dr. Vince ways that chiropractic care will help you to better cope with stress.
Life is an Occasion…Rise to It.
Share the gift of Life…Share Chiropractic Unfortunately, this is the time of year when stress can be very high. Help us tell others about the more natural approach to reducing and dealing with the stress that can sometimes come with the season. Please feel free to share this newsletter with the people in your life that would enjoy a stress-free holiday season.
We would appreciate your written testimonial on how Chiropractic has been a benefit to you and your family. Testimonials are another way of encouraging others to choose a path to better health.

Dr. Jeff says….
It’s time to wake up!!!
Throughout the over 18 years that I have been a chiropractor, I have observed hundreds of cases where parents have their children on Ritalin and other drugs prescribed for ADD and ADHD. These are disorders which can adversely affect the individuals ability to learn appropriately, focus or concentrate in school and at home, it also affects their behavior, making them hyperactive.
Study after study indicates a common denominator in most cases and that is that either during childbirth or in early childhood there was some form of trauma which caused a subluxation (mis-aligned vertebra) to the upper cervical (neck) portion of the spine. When there is a upper neck mis-alignment it will lead to a disruption in the communication between the brain and body, thereby creating dysfunction in the body. Chemical imbalance will occur and will ultimately affect a person’s behavior, concentration, and learning ability as well as overall poor health. Chiropractic adjustments are designed to restore proper spinal alignment thereby restoring fullest potential. Below is an example of one child who was helped through Chiropractic care.
This mother’s testimonial was published in the ICPA (International Chiropractic Pediatric Association-Research Foundation) Newsletter July/August 1998.
- When Kevin was 3 he was diagnosed as having ADHD. After trying diet changes, allergy testing and behavior modification techniques, we reluctantly agreed to put Kevin on Ritalin. The medication did its job as far as slowing him down a bit, but he suffered many side effects. In 2 years he grew only 2 inches and did not gain any weight at all. He cried easily, had trouble sleeping, no appetite, and would “zone out” quite often.
- Finally at age 6 we made the decision to stop giving him Ritalin. He grew 6 inches in less than 1 year and gained 15 pounds. His sleeping and eating patterns were still erratic, and the schoolwork was horrible…his writing was illegible and math made no sense to him.
- We brought him to Dr. D’Angiolillo* for chiropractic care, twice a week for 6 weeks. This past week when I went to his parent-teacher conference, the first thing the teacher asked me was had we put Kevin back on Ritalin. I said no, and she showed me a sample of Kevin’s work and showed me the sudden improvement…for the first time his writing is in the lines, it is easy to read and much more age appropriate.
- Although he still tends to move around more than the average child does, he is able to concentrate, answer questions correctly and is reading better than most of his class!
As a culture we need to “wake up” and realize that the answer to dealing with ADD and ADHD is not in drugging our children (and adults), but rather in seeking conservative approaches to dealing with the cause of the problem not the effects.

Dr. Jeff says….
The saying goes, “Mighty oaks from tiny acorns grow.” While this is meant to be a positive quote, when applied to our health it can also take on a not so positive meaning. Depending, of course on how you take care of yourself. Chiropractically speaking, even a small amount of nerve interference can lead to major problems down the road if left unaddressed. This is why it is so imperative that children get their spines evaluated as soon as possible. With all of the tumbles that they take on a day to day basis, nerve interference is inevitable, but correctable.
My goal and Dr. Vince‘s goal, as your Chiropractors, is to make sure that your spine is interference free and that you are living life to you optimum potential. When we speak of “tiny acorns” and “mighty oaks”, I pray that it is pertaining to goals, dreams and achievements, not negative health issues.
Part of taking care of our health is taking time to rest and “smell the roses”
We would like to challenge each of you, for the next month (longer if you decide you like it), to give yourself a 15 minute break from the cares of life. Use this time to enjoy a cup of tea, a cup of coffee or a latte, read a chapter in a book, or just sit and do nothing.
Here, also is a little tip to make your sun tea a little sunnier.
When you place your sun tea out in the morning, put a few sprigs of mint, lemon balm, scented geraniums, lemon verbena or some rose petals in your jar. Strain them out when you are ready to serve.

BUILDING BLOCKS OF NATURE…
Dr. David Koivuranta
It is human nature to take an object, be it an engine, a plant, the Eiffel Tower or the human body and dissect it to know how it works. The belief is that if one can comprehend the intricacies of any whole item than the whole itself will become clearer. The sad fact is that this is not always true, especially in nature.
Some time ago, about the time the most powerful microscopes were developed we learned that all living, organic things were made of cells. Plants are made with one type of cell and animals are made with another type. Regardless, like the bricks in a wall or the stitches in a sweater, they are the very fabrics of all living things on Earth.
Each and every cell in your body, of which there are billions, contains the blueprint to create a whole new you. Hence the advancements with genetic engineering, cloning, etc. Each cell decides what it is going to “grow up to be”. If in the liver it will be a hepatocyte (liver cell), in the skin it may become a melanocyte (pigment cell), in the blood it may be a erythrocyte (red blood cell), and so on. Each and every cell specializes to become a part of the tissue, organ and organism it is in.
A single cell in your body cannot live on its own. It is dependent on nutrients and control from other systems in the body. In this intricate relationship something special happens. Although cloning is becoming possible, scientists cannot and will probably never be able to create a human from scratch. That is to say that even if we know we are built from cells and we know all the parts in the cells, we simply cannot build cells from scratch, put them together and expect a living thing. The reason is we cannot create life. Only life begets life, as the saying goes, or only life can create life.
In this sense, the body is much greater than the sum of its parts. Something wondrous occurs when life is created, something that humankind will struggle with for generations to come. But it is this very quality of life that dictates our health, our happiness and our life as a whole. Knowing that this special power exists in all living things is important. If we begin to trust, believe, and expect this power of life to exist, we can then begin to focus on the important aspects of living, such as our health.
For example, when someone is scratched and they bleed new skin cells must be made to heal the wound. This is a process only your body can dictate. We can help by keeping the wound clean and dry but we cannot speed the natural creation of new cells. This similar event occurs in most disease states whether it is the common cold and the production of new immune cells or the spraining of a joint and the production of new ligament cells. We can help the process, but we cannot ignore it.
Often times we tend to forget what healing is…true healing. Although we can heal on the physical, chemical and emotional levels, it is important to remember we need to heal on the cellular level and on the “life” level. After all, life cannot be created from scratch (with the exception of birth) but it surely can be destroyed. It may seem trivial, but sometimes the simplest things in life are the most powerful. And your in-born ability to be healthy and full of life should be nurtured, not destroyed. Think about it.
**One way to nurture your in-born ability to be healthy and full of life is through regular Chiropractic adjustments. If you have any questions regarding how Chiropractic can benefit you, please feel free to talk
to Dr. Jeff or Dr. Vince.

Chiropractic for Children
Parents and Questions
How early can children be adjusted? Why do they need adjustments? Aren't their bones still soft? What if they cry?
All of these questions and more go through the minds of parents who are contemplating chiropractic care for their children. Some parents are hesitant about getting their children adjusted even though they themselves are under care. Our children are so special to us that sometimes in an effort to be protective we become "over-protective" and deprive them of necessary and valuable experiences. If chiropractic care is necessary to your good health and to reaching your potential as an adult, then it logically follows that it is even more necessary for a child. After all, they have a nerve system which controls and coordinates all their bodily functions just as you do. Their vertebrae can become subluxated just as yours can and interfere with the function of the nerve system. The only difference is that they still have a lifetime ahead of them which will manifest the results of what they do today.
For more information on Chiropractic for Children, please call the office and request an appointment to speak with
Dr. Jeff about the benefits of Chiropractic for your child or call and request your copy of the pamphlet Chiropractic for Children and one of our staff members will get it in the mail to you. You can reach us at 847-844-1950.
Backpacks
With the school year starting up again, now is the time to think about the load our kids are carrying in their packs. Even MD's are beginning to recognize the potentially serious implications of kids carrying too heavy of a load in their backpacks. Current recommendations suggest our kids not carry loads greater that 10% of their body weight. Many manufacturers have recognized insufficiencies in backpack design and are now offering bio-mechanically improved backpacks.
Parents should look for the following essential backpack features to help their child stay injury-free while transporting heavy school materials:
* Padded and contoured shoulder straps reduce the potential of pressure on the shoulder and make the
backpack more comfortable to wear.
* Padded back reduces pressure on the bones of the spine and prevents the contents of the pack from
digging into the child's back.
* A waist belt helps to distribute the load on the lower back
* For kids who bear the burden of an extra heavy load, parents may want to consider a wheeled backpack.
* Shoulder straps should fit comfortably on the shoulders and under the arms. The bottom part of the backpack should rest in the contour of the lower back. The pack should "sit" evenly in the middle of the back, not up toward the shoulders or "sagging down" toward the child's bottom.
After School Snack
After a long day of learning and working at school, our kids might need an extra energy boost. Here are some quick and easy ideas of healthy snacks to keep on hand.
* Yogurt parfait (layer yogurt, granola, and fresh fruit)
* Trail mix (Cheerios, M&M's, peanuts, dried fruit, anything else)
* Monkey Tails (bananas dipped in chocolate, rolled in peanuts, then frozen)
* Cottage cheese with strawberries
* Cut and peeled fruit ready to eat
* Ants on a Log (celery sticks with peanut butter and raisins on top)
* 100% fruit juice popsicles (or try half juice and half yogurt)
* Apples with peanut butter for dipping

Dear Jeff says...
This
edition of Subluxator Eliminator is dedicated to children.
I have worked with countless children in the 17 years
that I have been in practice. Their reasons for coming
to me have been varied...some had asthma, some had
been injured, still others had child-hood ailments
like colic. No matter the reason, all these children
have had successful results under Chiropractic care.
I hope that the following article will help to answer
any questions that you or a loved one might have about
the importance of Chiropractic care for children.
Why
should children have Chiropractic care? On a personal
note, thank you all again for your continued prayers
for me and my family. I am continuing to pursue a holistic
solution to the challenge at hand and know that God
is with me every step of the way. God bless.
More
and more parents are seeking chiropractic care for
their children. Many spinal problems seen in adults
began as early as birth. Even so called 'natural' birthing
methods can stress an infant's spine and developing
nerve system. The resulting irritation to the nerve
system caused by spinal and cranial misalignment can
be the cause of many newborn health complaints. Colic,
breathing problems, nursing difficulties, sleep disturbances,
allergic reactions
and
chronic infections can often be traced to nerve system
stress.
Since
significant spinal trauma can occur at birth, many
parents have their newborns checked right away.As the
infant grows, learning to hold up the head, sit, crawl
and walk are all activities that affect spinal alignment
and are important times to have a child checked by a
Doctor of Chiropractic.
As
the child begins to participate in regular childhood
activities like skating or riding a bike, small yet
significant spinal misalignments (subluxations) may
occur. If neglected, the injuries during this period
of rapid growth may lead to more serious problems later
in life. Subtle trauma throughout childhood will affect
the future development of the spine leading to impaired
nervous system function. Any interference to the vital
nerve system will adversely affect the body’s
ability to function at its best.
One
of the most common reason parents seek care for their
child is trauma from an injury of some sort. These
misalignments may or may not result in immediate pain
or symptoms. Regular chiropractic checkups can identify
potential spinal injury from these traumas, make the
correction early in life and help avoid many of the
health complaints seen later in adults. Proper spinal
hygiene is an important key to better health.
Another
sought out reason for care is the resolution of a particular
symptom or condition. Parents seek care for conditions
such as colic, ear infections, asthma, allergies and
headaches (to name a few) because they have heard from
other parents that chiropractic care can help.
It
is important to understand that the doctor of chiropractic
does not treat conditions or diseases. The expertise
of the chiropractor is in checking the child’s
spine for misalignments that impair nervous system
function therefore affecting overall body function.
The bones of the spine, the vertebrae, house and protect
the spinal cord. The spinal cord is an extension of
the brain and carries information from the brain to
the body parts and back to the brain again. Subluxations
interfere with the nerves’ ability to transmit
this vital information.
The
nerve system controls and coordinates the function
of all the systems in the body: circulatory, respiratory,
digestive, hormonal, eliminative and immune system.
Any aspect of health may be impaired by nerve interference.
The chiropractic adjustment restores nerve system function
allowing the body the ability to express a greater
state of health and well-being.
The
doctor of chiropractic will take a case history and
perform a chiropractic exam to determine if spinal
subluxations exist. Chiropractic adjusting procedures
are modified to fit a child's size, weight, and unique
spinal condition. They are both gentle and specific
to the child’s developing spinal structures.
Most parents report that their children enjoy their
chiropractic adjustments and look forward to subsequent
visits. They also report that their children experience
a greater level of health while under regular chiropractic
care.
Once
your family has experienced the many benefits of chiropractic
care—please help us tell others!

Subluxator
Eliminator
To
all of my patients,
This issue of Subluxator Eliminator is dedicated to all of
you for your unconditional support and caring over the past month regarding
my health challenge. I has touched me greatly to receive the many cards, letters
and kind words of concern that you have expressed for me and my family.I want
to update all of you on how my "journey" is going and how I have
chosen to deal with this. For over 17 years I have been teaching hundreds of
thousands of individuals and families ways that they can achieve and maintain
optimum health and wellness; the foundation of which has been the importance
of keeping a healthy spine and nervous system through chiropractic adjustments.
I believed then and continue to believe that health comes from within our bodies
and not from a medicine cabinet. God designed our bodies in such a way that
healing is the natural thing to do (as long as there is nothing interfering
with it, such as a spinal misalignment)...over the years I have seen time and
time again how the Philosophy has been proven that health can be restored...it's
natural!!
This
situation that I am dealing with is no different. God
has led me to a health center in Wheaton where I am addressing
the nutritional aspect of my life. My body is getting
back into total health and balance through this intense
nutritional and detoxification program, along with, of
course, the Chiropractic care I have always received.
Below I have also listed two Scriptures which I read
daily among other scriptures that are, in my opinion,
extremely powerful and vital to the healing process as
well.
God
will cover me with His wings; I will be safe in His care;
His faithfulness will protect and defend me. I will not
fear any dangers at night or sudden attacks during the
day. Psalm 91: 4-5 I am not afraid of receiving bad news;
my faith is strong, and I will trust in the Lord. I am
not worried or afraid. Psalm 112: 7-8
In
addition, thank you for your cooperation, understanding
and flexibility with my slight schedule change. In the
meantime, thank you, also for making Dr. Vince feel so
welcome here, it means alot. I really appreciate his
dedication to me, as well as all of you.
Thank
you all again, I look forward to continuing to serve
you for many years to come.
God bless,
Dr. Jeff
Health & Wellness
Care
What does wellness mean to you? Do you think that it means the absence ot disease?
Most people associate not being sick with wellness. However, the purpose of this
month's newsletter is to open your eyes to what wellness really is and how it
can improve your life. Wellness care is defined as taking steps to be proactive--meaning
not waiting until negative things happen before making changes in our lives.
For example, a person who decides to start exercising to prevent the possibility
of heart trouble down the road would be proactive, and leading a wellness lifestyle.
A person who decides to start exercising only after they are diagnosed with heart
trouble would be reactive.
What
are some steps you can take to lead a wellness lifestyle?
Write down your health goals and develop a mission statement. This way you
can stay on track and review your goals as often as you need to. Another step
you can take is to eat well, take vitamins and drink plenty of water. This
suggestion is simple, but it can be a very powerful way to improve your health.
Exercise and stretching are important to maintaining a wellness lifestyle.
Our bodies were not designed to sit in front of the computer or television
for hours. Take a walk or go to the gym. Getting enough sleep is something
that many of us don't do. You will feel much better the following day if you've
had a good night's sleep. It is important for men over the age of 40 and women
over the age of 18 to get annual exams. Another very important way to start
you wellness lifestyle is to break habits that you know are bad. If you smoke,
find a way to quit! There are more products now than ever to help you quit,
and now is the time before your health begins to suffer. Another helpful tip
is to serve others. Its amazing how your problems begin to diminish when you
are helping other people with theirs. And finally...
Get
regular adjustments from your Chiropractor!
One of the easiest way you can maintain a healthy lifestyle is to get regular
adjustments. You are probably wondering why you should get adjusted even if
you feel fine. Many people "feel fine", but have no energy, or "feel
fine" but have regular headaches. Also many people who "feel fine" may
be suffering from heart disease or cancer. Therefore, "feeling fine" is
not an accurate indication of health. Dr. Jeff or Dr. Vince will evaluate your
spine and search for subluxations. Subluxations are "misalignments" that
you may or may not even know are there. These subluxations put stress on your
spinal cord and affect the functioning of the nervous system. A stressed nervous
system means that your body is not functioning as efficiently as it could,
and therefore you will be less able to fight stress and disease. Periodic care
will also help cut down on the number of painful flare-ups you might experience.
Most people would rather get adjusted once a week under maintenance care than
having a painful flare-up that could last multiple days and require multiple
adjustments. The choice is yours--proactive care or reactive care? Ask Dr.
Jeff or Dr. Vince for details!
Finally,
remember...Your
referrals are not only the finest compliment to this
practice, but they are also the best way to show how
much you care about the other people in your life.
Share the gift of high quality life...share the message
of Chiropractic. Gift cards and literature are always
available to you reach out to your loves ones.

Dear
Jeff says...
Where is
your faith? Do you have more faith in a pill, a shot, a vitamin,
or an herb to heal your body...or will you put your faith in
the power that created your body to begin with?
The human
body is an amazing creation, powerful, a bit mysterious, and
fully capable to healing itself. Yet many of us forget this
fact, and at the first sign of sickness, turn to medicine for
a cure. Studies show that medicine works by masking symptoms,
never really eradicating the root problem itself. It's interesting
that so much faith is placed in a science that all too often
fails to produce steady, safe, healing results.
At the entire
end of the spectrum is chiropractic care. Doctors of Chiropractic
believe the human body is born with an innate ability to heal
itself from disease. The body always knows what to do, how
to function, how to act and react, unless something interferes
with its internal communication process. One of the most common
causes of internal communication interference is a misalignment
of the spine. For example, a symptom of a spinal misalignment
by be a back pain and headache. Taking a pill may temporarily
relieve the headache or backache, but it has done nothing to
correct the spinal misalignment. Worse still, when the medication
wears off, the symptom will return. Even worse than that, is
a spinal misalignment that is left uncorrected, over time it
will grow from a small problem to a larger problem with more
serious health consequences.
That's why
chiropractic works to resolve the root of the problem, not
just treat the symptom. And that's why it's important to place
your faith in the body's ability to heat itself-not a pill.

Immunization...Totally Unconstitutional
If artifical
immunization always worked, vaccinated children wouldn't get
measles or other diseases, but they do. Realize that there
is little proof that vaccines work. Many link the decline of
certain diseases with the use of it vaccine yet, they ignore
the improved sanitation, nutrition, and hygiene that vaccinated
population have enjoyed as widespread immunization was introduced.
In addition,
vaccines can be dangerous. It's hard to predict how anyone,
especially an infant, will react when injected with serums
made from barnyard animal blood, cultured monkey tissue, aluminum,
and fermaldehyde. Reactions can range from the disease itself,
to disability and even death! The fact that children survive
inoculation is a powerful testiment to the very immune system
that is being tampered with by these substances.
Before you
agree to vaccinations or any other procedure, get the facts.
Read books. Ask questions. Explore your choices. Maximize your
child's natural immunity by breastfeeding (if applicable) and
assuring the proper diet, rest, and exercise. Include regular
Chiropractic checkups to optimize the nervous system which
controls the immune system and every other cell, tissue, organ
and system of the body.
Remember good
health resides within your body, not your medicine cabinet!

Back Pain Factors The factors
listed below can be responsible for lower back pain. Most of which
can be easily fixed. Talk to Dr. Jeff about remedies that can
apply to you.
- Lack of
muscle tone
- High-heeled
shoes
- Smoking
- Sleeping
position/Improper mattress*
- Poor sitting/standing
posture
- Daily
stress and tension
- Carrying
a heavy briefcase/purse/shoulder bag
- Holding
the telephone with your shoulder
- A car
accident/sports injury/fall
- Having
a thick wallet in your back pocket
- Excess
weight around your middle
- A pillow
that forces your neck into an awkward angle
- Improper
lifting
Working out
and strengthening your abdominal muscles can actually help to
reduce lower back pain. The stronger your ab muscles are the better
your posture. Better posture leads to a healthier spine and less
pain. Here’s a little exercise you can try: Lay on the floor
on your back. Place your hand under the curve formed by your lower
back. Next, flatten the curve against your hand. If you are doing
this correctly, you will feel your lower abs tighten. Don’t
lift your legs as you perform this exercise 5 times for 15 to
30 seconds daily. Soon you’ll be able to perform this "pelvic
tilt" when sitting or standing to strengthen your abdominal
muscles and to give your lower back a break!
*If you and
Dr. Jeff determine that your mattress could be a factor in any
lower back weakness, we would encourage you to visit Bedtime USA.

Summer
Trip Tips
Sitting for
a long time in one position can really put a strain on your lower
back. This is because the pressure on the lower back discs is
dramatically increased in the seated position. Also the musculature
of the back fatigues relatively quickly if those muscles hold
still for extended periods of time.
For those
of you who will be driving or flying long distances this summer,
here are some tips on keeping your lower back in check.
- Use a
lumbar cushion
- Pull over,
stretch, and walk around every two hours, every 30 minutes if
your back is hurting.
- Confirm
that your seat position properly supports your lower back.
Keep
Bugs at Bay
With the
warm temperatures of summer come mosquitoes and other bugs. Follow
these simple measures to repel mosquitoes and other pesky insects:Vitamin
B: Taking 50 to 300mg of vitamin B complex 30 minutes before going
outside will alter your body odor to ward off bugs. Good sources
of vitamin B would include: oranges, cherries, grapes, apples,
apricots, bananas, lemons, pears and plums.
Garlic: Garlic
gives you an odor that bugs don’t like. Consume a very garlicky
meal before heading outdoors.
Take
time to take care of YOU!
When you
take time to take care of yourself you are better equip to help
others. Make a point this summer to schedule yourself for a massage.
Just talk to Cyndi, Michelle, or Amber to set a time up with Beth.

Optimum
health in every season of life!
If you or someone you love wants to experience
less disease and illness in your life. If you or someone you love
would like an improvement in your physical and emotional health,
more vitality, less stress, more energy and greater life enjoyment,
no matter what your age…then you need Chiropractic!
While many people initially visit a chiropractor
for problems relating to acute pain, they continue their care
as a result of improvement in their general health, vitality and
social function.
The benefits of chiropractic care also know no
age limits, from newborn to elderly…all will benefit. Children
who receive regular Chiropractic adjustments are reported to get
sick less frequently, less severely, have less ear infections
and take less (or no) antibiotics and other drugs than their classmates
do. Other improvements were noted in children with hyperactivity,
autism, anxiety, low mental stamina, lack of concentration, asthma
and discipline problems. Improvement in grades and IQ has also
been recorded.
Study after study reveals that chiropractic patients
have 55-75% fewer absences from work, they’ve shown significant
improvements in physical health and mental/emotional health. Patients
have also reported feeling less stress in their lives and more
life enjoyment. These benefits became evident as early as 1-3
months under care and showed continuing improvement as long as
they stayed under care.
A study of men and women 75 years and older revealed
that those visiting chiropractors had better overall health and
a higher quality of life. Chiropractic patients reported fewer
chronic conditions (various arthritic disorders, digestive problems,
balance, coordination, high blood pressure, etc.) and fewer days
spent in nursing homes and hospitals. They were also more mobile
in their communities and were less likely to use prescription
drugs than non-chiropractic patients.
Now you understand why chiropractic has become
the most poplar natural, drug-free health care system in the world.
Millions of people, at every season of life, visit their family
doctors of chiropractic for one simple reason: it works!
